ABERTURA
A Abertura do 13º FICBC é composta de 2 momentos que levam diferentes experiências para todo o público presente. O primeiro é a cerimônia de abertura, que busca levar informações importantes e essenciais para o entendimento do Festival. O segundo é a homenagem a Andrei Tarkovski com as obras “Nostalgia”, “Stalker” e exibição de “Tempo de Viagem”

Andrei Tarkovsky
Nasceu em 1932 em Zavroje, pequena cidade russa a margem do rio Volga, filho do poeta Arseni Tarkovski (nascido em 1907). Seus estudos alcançam interesses diversos: música depois pintura, a escultura, o árabe, trabalha na Sibéria como geólogo. Só em 1956 entra no VGIK, o instituto central do cinema soviético. Estuda cinema quatro anos sob a direção do mestre Mikhail Romm. Seu longa de estréia e mestrado é “O Rolo Compressor e o Violino” (“Katok I Skrypka”, 1960). “A Infância de Ivan”, de 1962, ganha Leão de Ouro no Festival de Veneza. “Andrei Roublev”, de 1966 fica vários anos inédito sem razão compreensível. “Solaris”, de 1972, leva o Prêmio Especial do Júri de Cannes e cria o mito de ser a versão oriental ao “2001” de Kubrich. “O Espelho”, de 1974, provoca violentas críticas em seu país e só ganha fronteira em 1978. “Stalker”, de 1979, tem problemas de produção e marca o seu derradeiro filme russo. Roda “Nostalgia” em 1983 na Itália e leva em Cannes 84 o Grande Prêmio de Criação. No mesmo ano decide viver no Ocidente diante da negativa de ter seu passaporte renovado. “O Sacrifício” ganhou em Cannes 86 outra vez o Prêmio Especial do Júri. Morreu no exílio, em 1986, na França.
“Tempo de Viagem”

SINOPSE / Synopsis: Efeito de uma busca interior ou de uma qualquer nostalgia. Em 1979 Andrei Tarkovski está na Itália na companhia do poeta e argumentista italiano Tonino Guerra. Ambos vão, por um mês, iniciar um Tempo di Viaggio, uma jornada, física e espiritual, à descoberta de um local, também ele real e mental, marcado no espírito de Tarkovski para as filmagens de Nostalghia. Guerra, o anfitrião, conduz o realizador russo através das belezas tradicionais e turísticas da Itália, de Nápoles em direcção a sul, por Sorrento e Lecce. Mas Tarkovski procura um lugar secreto, já visualizado, objeto de uma escolha que só ele sabe qual é, mesmo antes de lhe dar forma. A sua tensão interior libertou-se da realidade para se transformar numa relação emocional e contemplativa com essa realidade. Andrei sabe que tudo se encaixará de uma forma sutil e única num só local e num estado de alma. Durante este tempo de viagem as estradas da Itália e as vilas, as árvores e as piazzas alternam com as imagens de casas, varandas e jardins traseiros onde Tonino e Andrei refletem sobre os fundamentos do artista e como ele – refere o russo – se deve sacrificar pela sua arte; para que o que fizer contenha as belezas, acrescenta Tonino Guerra.

SINOPSE / Synopsis: A caminho da aula de violino, o menino Sasha, de sete anos, tem seu instrumento tomado por garotos maiores que ele. O operador de rolo-compressor Serguei, que trabalhava nos arredores, presencia a cena e ajuda Sasha a recuperar o instrumento. Nasce daí uma amizade, que rende ao jovem outras lições de vida.

A Encerramento do 13º FICBC é formado de uma cerimônia de premiação revelando os melhores filmes da edição, além de homenagem ao Andrei Tarkovski exibindo “O Rolo Compressor e o Violinista” na sessão de encerramento no dia 17/12 às 20h30.

Exibe filmes de curta, média e longa-metragem, brasileiros e estrangeiros, que participam de uma competição pela disputada Coruja de Ouro. É a principal janela do festival onde são exibidos filmes inéditos. A curadoria busca apresentar filmes de diretores estreantes ou consolidados que estimulem diferentes tipos de sensibilidade. Algumas sessões apresentam a primeira exibição no Brasil, na América Latina ou no Mundo e terão bate-papo ao final do filme.

A incerteza de sua lesão e o Alzheimer, criam conflito constante para uma pessoa que tenta evitá-lo o máximo que pode. Enquanto nos treinos Paula relesiona o ombro e é obrigada a usar esteroides para se recuperar mais rápido e voltar a entrar na equipe. À medida que o Alzheimer da mãe piora, Paula precisa suportar abusos emocionais da mãe e da ausência do pai. Paula consegue se recuperar a tempo de mais uma oportunidade na equipe, mas isso é apenas o começo de seus novos problemas.
Paula, a professional swimmer, tries to recover from a shoulder injury that cost her her place on the country’s national team. Her long recovery process leads her to face family problems, her mother suffers from Alzheimer’s and no longer remembers her, leading Paula to question her own identity and meaning of life. The uncertainty of her injury and Alzheimer’s, create constant conflict for a person who tries to avoid it as much as she can. While in practice Paula reinjures the shoulder and is forced to use steroids in order to recover faster and re-enter the team. As her mother’s Alzheimer’s worsens, Paula must endure emotional abuse from her mother and absence from her father. Paula manages to recover in time for another opportunity in the team, but this is just the start of her new problems.

SINOPSE / Synopsis: Numa área rural da Mongólia, onde uma pessoa com síndrome de down raramente é vista, se for reconhecida como altamente ostracizada ou seriamente estigmatizada pela sociedade, um menino Jam /Fate/ com trissomia cresce com a ajuda de uma mãe amorosa. Sua mãe optou por viver mantendo distância das pessoas para criar o filho de forma pacífica, evitando o risco de discriminação social. Para isso, ela fez com que sua filha mais nova fosse adotada por outra pessoa e assim a filha pudesse ter uma vida melhor. A mãe deixou a cidade para um lugar remoto para cuidar da criação de animais para atender às necessidades diárias. Com o passar dos dias, mamãe faleceu devido à velhice e Jam enfrenta um momento de sofrimento psicológico, emocional e físico que alterou sua vida. Jam acidentalmente conheceu um monge em um momento difícil, quando ele não conseguia compreender devido ao falecimento repentino de sua mãe. O monge, que praticava reclusão meditativa na natureza há muito tempo, ajudou Jam a realizar o tradicional ritual mongol de enterro ao ar livre e ambos redesenvolvem a profunda conexão espiritual com a vida natural e selvagem. Ao fazer isso, eles colocaram uma marca no corpo da mãe de acordo com o costume nômade da Mongólia para que Jam pudesse reconhecer sua mãe quando ela reencarnasse. A tendência de ser rude, excessivamente compassivo ou discriminatório contra pessoas com Síndrome de Down, bem como explicações rudes relacionadas com as palavras mongol, mongolóide e mongolismo, não desapareceu da nossa sociedade. O mundo fala muitas línguas, mas temos apenas uma língua comum. Isto é amor. Não deixe ninguém para trás!
In a rural area of Mongolia where a person with down syndrome rarely seen, if recognized highly ostracized or seriously stigmatized by the society, a boy Jam /Fate/ with trisomy grow up with the help of loving mother. His mother chose to live keeping distance from people in order to raise her son peacefully avoiding the risk of social discrimination. For that purpose, she had her youngest daughter adopted by another person and so daughter could have a better life. Mother left the town to a remote are to do animal husbandry to provide everyday needs. As the days elapse, Mother passed away due to old age and Jam faces with the life altering moment of psychological, emotional, and physical distress. Jam fortuitously met a monk at the difficult time when he could not comprehend due to his mother’s sudden passing away. The monk, who had been practicing meditative seclusion on in the wild for a long time, helped Jam to perform the traditional Mongolian ritual of open air burial and both re-develops the deep spiritual connection with the natural and wild life. While doing this, they put a mark on the mother’s body in accordance with the Mongolian nomadic custom so that Jam could recognize his mother when she reincarnated in reborn. Loneliness and the sudden loss of his beloved mother, grievances and mourning fall upon Jam for a while. However, he returns to a normal independent life with the knowledge of his mother’s teachings. His adopted sister was pregnant when their mother died. Five years later, his sister came to Jam with her daughter to return together to the place where her mother had been inhumated. Jam suddenly went overwhelmed to see his mother’s mark on his niece’s hand. This is the nature of love, the interdependence of man and nature, the eternal lineage of the mother and offspring, the meaning of human life. A human life is nothing but a dwelling in the intertwined trinity of the past, present and future or in the realm of the TRIO under the father heaven and the mother earth. There is no way one can escape in the midway. Humans come onto earth and return into earth, and that is the only truth. Even as time passes, attuned mental talk between the mother and the child, breathing and living under the sun with one heart do not fade but become more like an eternal spiritual lullaby to each other, and this is the natural law. The tendency to be rude, overly compassionate, or discriminating against people with Down Syndrome, as well as rude explanations in connection with the words Mongol, Mongoloid and Mongolism, has not disappeared from our society. The world speaks many languages, but we have only one common language. This is love. Leave no one behind!

LANDEN segue a sua protagonista na sua viagem botânica desde a costa alemã do mar de Wadden até à costa do Líbano. Enquanto recolhe plantas, testemunha as consequências do colapso económico do Líbano e a sua perturbadora decadência. A flora torna-se a sua única navegação constante. Ao longo de ecossistemas frágeis, perde-se entre a arquitetura modernista de Tripoli ou nas margens do rio Beirute para encontrar alguma esperança num futuro após a queda.
An essay about Lebanon (mainly) and Germany (also), about coastlines and plants like the marsh samphire, the milk thistle, the angel trumpet or the crimson bottlebrush. About adaptation and transformation as well as resistance, about changes desired and dreaded, the city of Beirut and its unexpected revelations, modernism and time passing by, and, of course, the hopes and fears of its inhabitants, many of whom sense that their future might wait for them across the sea, even if they don’t want to leave. LANDEN follows its protagonist on her botanical journey from the german Wadden sea shoreline to the coast of Lebanon. As she collects plants, she witnesses the consequences of Lebanon´s economic collapse and the disturbing decay. The flora become her only constant navigation. Along fragile ecosystems she loses herself between modernist architecture in Tripoli or at the banks of the Beirut River to find some hope for a future after the fall.

Ela precisa de ir à cidade para uma consulta médica e pede a Celeste que lhe empreste a carrinha que costuma usar para vender flores no cemitério. Celeste, preocupada com a irmã, decide ir com ela no dia seguinte, com a condição de regressarem a tempo da festa. Mas a carrinha não tarda a deixá-las e, por isso, Celeste e Teresa têm de ir a pé até à baixa da cidade. A viagem é uma oportunidade de se reencontrarem, de lidarem com o passado e de se conhecerem como se fosse a primeira vez. Celeste descobre que a consulta médica era uma desculpa e que Teresa esconde um segredo.
Celeste, 70 years old, left alone after the death of her husband, would like to do what she has never dared to do in many years of marriage: dance at the festival in the small town where she lives. During the preparations for the festival, she is unexpectedly visited by Teresa, the sister she has not seen for many years. She needs to get to town for a doctor’s visit and so she asks Celeste to borrow her little van she usually uses to sell flowers at the cemetery. Celeste, worried about her sister, decides to go with her the next day, on the condition that they will return just in time for the party. But the van soon leaves them and so the Celeste and Teresa have to walk by foot downtown. The journey is an opportunity to meet again, to deal with the past and to get to know each other as if for the first time. Celeste discovers that the doctor’s appointment was an excuse and Teresa is hiding a secret.

Miguel is dealing with depression. To try to understand this moment, he invites Rodrigo, a friend he hasn’t seen for 15 years, to his house. On the day of the meeting, Leticia, his ex-girlfriend, shows up before the guest. The unpleasant mood intensifies when Rodrigo arrives with Carla, his fiancé. Banalities briefly mask the awkwardness, but libido rises, and shyness drops as alcohol kicks in. When Leticia jokes about Miguel’s sexuality, he brings back an old memory that redefines the night.

O silêncio pode tornar-se um vício e Luísa já não sabe se foi só o seu nervo que morreu. Um filme sobre a descoberta de um mundo que se deixou de ouvir pela metade, onde a realizadora, ela própria surda de um ouvido, procura descobrir, os sons que perdeu e quais aqueles que ainda quer e pode ouvir. Através de Luísa percorremos esse mundo sonoro. Nota: Para quem ouve dos dois lados, é melhor ver este filme com auriculares. Não faço ideia de como será a experiência. 🙂
Luísa feels that she is living in two worlds. On her left side there is a world full of sounds. On her right side lives a dead nerve, which has transformed half of Luísa’s world into an absolute silence. While she is seeking for the meaning of her life, Luísa sharpens other senses and realises that, maybe, she does not need to hear everything. The silence can be addictive and Luísa no longer knows if it was only her nerve that has died. A film about the discovery of half of a world that has ceased to be heard. The director, which has Single-Sided Deafness, tries to discover which sounds she has lost and which ones she still wants and is able to hear. With Luisa, we travel through her world. Note: For those who can listen from both sides, it is better to assist to this film with phones. I have no ideia what it sounds like. 🙂

SINOPSE / Synopsis: Ao decidirem dividir um apartamento, os amigos Alexandre e Gustavo se colocam na esforçada tarefa de carregar um sofá, a pé, entre uma casa e outra. No trajeto, suas pequenas diferenças somadas as suas masculinidades em formação acabam revelando grandes abismos na perspectiva de dividir um lar.
After agreeing to share an apartment, friends Alexandre and Gustavo put themselves in the hard task of carrying a couch, on foot, between one house and another. Along the way, their small differences added to their developing masculinities end up revealing huge divergencies in the perspective of sharing a home.

SINOPSE / Synopsis: O projeto do curta metragem “CÓDIGO PIRATA” surgiu como parte da conclusão de uma das Oficinas realizadas pela produtora Rockset. A Oficina Rockset de produção de filmes, do roteiro às telas foi ministrada por Regis Terencio, produtor brasileiro residente em Los Angeles, onde os alunos passaram por todo processo de pré-produção, e a parte prática seria a primeira diária de filmagem do curta, escrito pela estudante de cinema Kristel Hemmer, especialmente para a Oficina. A produtora Rockset empenhou toda sua equipe, equipamentos e infraestrutura para que os alunos pudessem vivenciar a experiência real de um set de filmagem. O resultado foi tão surpreendente, que decidimos dar continuidade ao projeto e finalizar as captações em mais 2 diárias, e a pós produção dando início à uma nova fase da produtora: investir em projetos de cinema. “Código Pirata” é um curta metragem, estilo mockumentário, baseado em contos, lendas e histórias reais de piratas do litoral Catarinense, misturando ficção e realidade com uma boa dose de humor. O Capitão Rock Brasiliano e sua tripulação aterrorizaram a costa brasileira com suas armas primitivas, código totalitário, investidas cruéis, sarcasmo e muito Rum. Ou pelo menos, é o que os historiadores dizem. Capitão Rock quer provar que isso não é verdade… Exceto pela parte do Rum.
The short film project “PIRATE CODE” emerged as part of the conclusion of one of the workshops held by the Rockset production company. The Rockset workshop on film production, from script to screen, was taught by Regis Terencio, a Brazilian producer residing in Los Angeles, where students went through the entire pre-production process, and the practical part would be the first day of filming for the short film, written by film student Kristel Hemmer, especially for the workshop. Rockset production company committed its entire team, equipment, and infrastructure so that students could experience the real set filming experience. The result was so surprising that we decided to continue the project and complete the shooting in 2 more days, and begin post-production, starting a new phase of the company: investing in cinema projects. “The Pirate Code” is a short film, mockumentary style, based on tales, legends and real stories of pirates from the coast of Santa Catarina, mixing fiction and reality with a good dose of humor. Captain Rock Brasiliano and his crew terrorized the Brazilian coast with their primitive weapons, totalitarian code, cruel attacks, sarcasm and lots of Rum. Or at least, that’s what historians says. Captain Rock wants to prove that’s not true… Except about the Rum.

A misunderstanding leads David to run away and get involved in several adventures, consequently leading Nadi to decide between keeping her citizenship or informing the authorities about the escape. The film is a genuinely Brazilian science fiction, which takes place in Minas Gerais, one of the most relevant political scenarios in the history of Brazil.

Nadi is an android with citizenship, who earns the right to adopt two children, David and Lina. “The Pirate Code” is a short film, mockumentary style, based on tales, legends and real stories of pirates from the coast of Santa Catarina, mixing fiction and reality with a good dose of humor. Captain Rock Brasiliano and his crew terrorized the Brazilian coast with their primitive weapons, totalitarian code, cruel attacks, sarcasm and lots of Rum. Or at least, that’s what historians says.
